I think it should be legalized or at least decriminalized for adults, with common-sense restrictions (like they shouldn't smoke a bongful and then go driving on the freeway). There are a lot of diseases that little brings relief for besides marijuana, so people risk getting busted to have it. Or they go without.

I've read a lot of studies and they always seem to show whatever the tester wants the results to show. The ones that seem less biased seem to be in favor of marijuana not causing a lot of harm, from what I've read. Surely it's better than alcohol, which causes aggression in a lot of people, unlike marijuana.

What do you think?

Good Afternoon, hope you are well.
I think to begin with it should be legalized for
medicinal use...ie prescribed by a Doctor.

It can bring relief of pain for a lot of patients,
that has to be good.

In the future i think it may be legalised for recreational
use, although i believe that is a long way off at the moment.

For medicinal puposes, it should be legal (imho)

For recreational, i dont really know, certainly doesnt seem to
cause the illness and death associated with alcohol and nicotine.
Which of course are both legal!

Kindest Regards Slim.

i think it should be
i work with people and some are in so much pain
it is not nice to see them like that
when they get really sick they can have morphine
or a intrathecal morphine pump fitted.

so yes i do agree it should become legalized
one of my friends ex partner he uses it as he is quite ill and cant find a pain relief that works and that does.

but it should be prescribed by the doctor and the person should have regular check ups

for personal uses it cant be no worse than smoking or drinking
but i think if it does get legalized then it should be kept off the streets and done in private or have special places to go and use it

Well, I hate to be an oddball but, I have to be honest. I grew up in a house full of marijuana users. I hear all the time how it is "harmless" and it really doesn't hurt anyone. Well, I for one, still bear the scars of marijuana use. Maybe it doesn't make you want to go slit somebody's throat but is the apathy and "Just don't care" attitude less hurtful? I guess to some it is. My mother still preaches the wonderful messages of marijuana use. She still feels it does no harm. She said the same things as she was walking away when I was ten. Her life is in the same mess it was my entire childhood. (The do nothing with your life, why bother....it's all crap anyway, attitude) She has emphysema, COPD, and probably lung cancer but hey, she wouldn't know cause she never got a job where she could get health insurance. But, sure, we can say it's not any more harmful than alcohol or nicotene. That may even be true. But, remember, there are people dying from their use of marijuana...a very slow, very painful death. Then, there are those who are watching it happen. A very slow, VERY painful experience. I'm for more restrictions on the drugs that are doing damage and killing (alcohol and nicotene) not for legalizing more drugs that "arn't so bad". Sorry if this is not the popular opinion but, when you grow up rolling joints and watching your 14 year old siblings trying to sell pot at school for your parents...you get a little bit of an anger built up at this "harmless drug that helps people relax". I don't remember many days being relaxed as a child...sure, my parents were mellowed right out (while I wondered if I'd eat dinner). Harmless? I don't see it that way. Sincerely, Mary

Hi Mary,

That is a very good argument and I'd feel the same if I had come from that situation. I've never seen it do that kind of damage. Then again, that doesn't sound like medicinal merijuana but recreational use taken way too far.

I've always heard that some people are prone to Addiction, period, of whatvever kind. Those should never take their first drink, snort, toke, gamble, or whatever. There's no way to legislate that and enforce it. So it's good meat for debate. I wonder if someday they'll find a drug that takes the tendency for addiction away. Imagine how many lives that would improve!

Anyway I respect how you feel about marijuana abuse. I only condone the use of it in ways that contribute to betterment of life, not the detriment of the users.

HI! Yeah, I can understand how people don't see a problem with pot if they've never seen it's destruction. The thing with my mom...today she preaches that it needs to be legalized. She seriously believes it's harmless. She suffers very much because of other medical conditions and the marijuana does ease the pain. (I imagine coke, meth, or some other illegal drug would ease her pain too...but, pot's her choice drug). To her, pot does no harm. It "mellows" you out, eases your pain and puts you in a state of mind to deal with life. Hmmm, not really the way I see it but, to each their own. I would vote NO on any ballot asking for the legalization of marijuana. But, truthfully, I won't be suprised if one day it becomes legal. Sincerely, Mary

Good Evening Mary, hope you are well.
I would only want to see it prescribed by a Doctor
for pain, not self administered, and certainly not smoked!

I think in JJPets Poll she meant for "proper" medicinal use.

Just a note! JJPet, I hope you didn't take my stand on this as something directly angry or anything to you! Not at all, and I hope you understood how I felt. I do understand that many people feel it should be legalized for medicinal use. If it were in "medical" form......pills or something, and prescribed by a doctor, I may view it differently but the smoking pot ..... you know how I feel. I just wanted to make sure you didn't think I was being rude to you.

Oh, heavens no, I didn't think that at all. Your point of view makes perfect sense in light of your life experience. Anyway you're not the rude sort. :)

Like Slim said, I'm just thinking in terms of proper medical use, not abuse.

Hello All
I believe that they have already produced a pain killing tablet made from cannibis and trails are now under way...They have done away with all the properties that make one feel "Mellow" but have somehow kept the properties that kill the pain. I myself think it should be legalised but under strict control, To those that need the use of the "Mellow" properties within cannabis as well as the pain relief...after all my belief is that as it is a naturaly grown herb, so to speak, it has to be better then mechanically made tablets... I think for recreational use it is sometimes very nice as is for people who drink alcohol to get drunk on occaisions, but not to use on a daily basis otherwise it will and does interfere with a persons life and make them completely useless to society.... These are my thoughts on it...

Hi Wend, and thank you for that article. I've found that a lady that used to be very dear to me, back when I lived in Tennessee, is suffering from MS so I hope they do find it helpful.

I love this century... there seems to be an ever-growing hope of defeating diseases, more than ever before.
